Fascinating places to visit around Dungannon

POP INTO the Killymaddy Tourist Information Centre on Ballygawley Road off the A4 near Dungannon to collect informative brochures on local attractions. This landmark TIC - tel: (028) 8776 7259 - is also a retail showcase for local crafts and artworks. The work of craft producers throughout Tyrone is featured in the Craft Trail folder available there.

Among other free literature is Undiscovered Tyrone, a guide to lesser-known places to visit. Some of the 'secrets' are not exactly hidden. For example, the 120-ft Moygashel Mill Chimney has been a high-profile landmark for decades! Look out for Newmills Viaduct and Augher Station.

at Moygashel is now best known as a centre for factory outlet shopping, but it also has a fascinating exhibition on the history of the famous Moygashel Linen Mills, including its contribution to the War Effort in 1939 - 45. Click on the link below to visit The Linen Green website

at Dergina, Ballygawley, off the A4, 13 miles west of Dungannon. Ulysses Simpson Grant, victorious American Civil War commander became U.S. President twice. There are play attractions for children at the cottage fom where the Simpson family emigrated.
